MEET JONATHAN MILLER
Candidate for Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas Judge
Jonathan is married to Lauren (McCann) Miller, a native of Lawrence County, and resides in Shenango Township with Lauren and their three children, Maggie, and twins Ethan and Ava. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2001 with a degree in political science and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2004, and has been a licensed attorney in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since that time. He has also been admitted to practice in federal court in the Western District of Pennsylvania since 2005.
Jonathan brings with him a diverse background in the practice of law since becoming a licensed attorney in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2004, beginning his career as an attorney at the Pittsburgh law firm of Slomski, Caruso & Associates, where he honed his skills as a civil litigator and advisor to businesses in the Pittsburgh region.
In 2007, Jonathan and his wife moved back to Lawrence County to start a private law practice, raise their family, and focus his legal expertise on providing counsel and representation to families, local businesses, and residents of Lawrence County.
Protecting our Children, Serving our Community
In 2011, Jonathan Miller heeded the call to public service, joining the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney specializing in the prosecution of child abuse and sexual offense crimes. Despite this difficult caseload, Jonathan quickly excelled at the position, earning the respect of his colleagues, defense counsel, law enforcement partners and victim services organizations. During his tenure as an Assistant District Attorney, Jonathan was in the Courtroom on a daily basis working to protect our children and our community, prosecuting hundreds of sexual offenders and child abusers. He has extensive jury trial experience, landing major convictions on some of the most serious crimes in Lawrence County.
As an Assistant District Attorney, Jonathan established himself as never afraid to take on tough cases in other areas, including public corruption cases, theft of public and non-profit funds, child homicides, narcotics trafficking, as well as other major felony crimes. Jonathan’s approach to prosecution was to always remain professional, steady-handed, steadfast and fair, in the pursuit of justice.
As an ADA, Jonathan’s responsibilities also extended beyond the courtroom, serving as Supervising Attorney for the Lawrence County Criminal Investigation Division, Supervising Attorney for the Lawrence County Sexual Assault Law Enforcement Task Force, whose mission is to combat crimes against our children, Member of the Lawrence County Human Trafficking Task Force, Member of the Lawrence County Multi-Disciplinary Team on Child Abuse, and Core Member of the Lawrence County STOP Program (domestic and sexual violence) Team. Jonathan also handles state and federal post-conviction appeals to the Pennsylvania Superior Court, PA Supreme Court, and Federal Courts, on behalf of the District Attorney’s Office.
For his dedication and service, Jonathan received the District Attorney’s Meritorious Service Award and the Lawrence County Childrens’ Advocacy Center Sexual Assault Responsive Hero Award.
Adding to his career in public service, Jonathan Miller was appointed to serve as Assistant Solicitor for the City of New Castle, a position he has held since 2012. In that role, Jonathan helped steer New Castle through the many legal challenges of Act 47 distressed status, and was vital in implementing legal policies for the City that helped New Castle emerge from Act 47 oversight in 2023, pointing the City towards a revitalized future.
Above all, Jonathan’s passion and dedication to serving the residents of Lawrence County has benefited the community for more than a decade, and his experience, knowledge, and courtroom skills, will be an asset to our community as the next Common Pleas Judge of Lawrence County.
Jonathan Miller’s dedication to justice, integrity, and public service, as well as his diverse legal background, make him ideally suited to hold the trusted position of Common Pleas Judge for Lawrence County.
